The workshop is designed to help participants:
1) Recognize the attachment, as well as the emotional and financial effects, companion animals have on our clients, including during the pandemic
2)  Demonstrate how the relationship to companion animals can impact family history, family dynamics, and the schema of family.
3) Illustrate an understanding of companion animal/pet loss and other theories of grief beyond Kubler-Ross' Stages of Grief.

A lifelong animal lover, Tracie Barton-Barrett, MS, NCC, LCMHC, is a speaker, former Psychology teacher, and published author of two novels that celebrate the human-animal bond:  BURIED DEEP IN OUR HEARTS and FINDING HER SPIRIT. As the recipient of The Excellence in Teaching Award from The National Society of Leadership & Success and her specialty in companion animal loss, Tracie has written and continues to write on the subject. She developed and facilitated companion animal loss support groups for animal shelter and veterinary hospital staff, as well as co-founded and co-facilitated a support group for North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital clients. She also traveled nationally to co-facilitate workshops on compassion fatigue for animal shelter staff and animal control officers.
